Life in Berea Ohio

Life in a small college town

The Cleveland Westside is blessed with a number of excellent animal services from groomers to dog trainers, cat behaviorists and of course pet sitters in Berea.  Here are a few we like to recommend.

  • The Doggie Concierge dog training
  • Creature Comforts Cat Styling Salon
  • Style Mutt for both dogs and cats

Finicky Cat Sitting and Behavior also provides pet sitting services and cat behavior consults for the purrbabies in Berea, Ohio.

There are several veterinary offices in the area.  We tend to recommend Metropet as the office is Fear Free and they have an entire wing dedicated just to our purrbabies!  And they are open 7 days a week.

Founded in 1845 with a gift from John Baldwin of “a five-acre campus, 30 village lots and 50 acres of land,” Baldwin Wallace was among the first colleges in the nation to admit students without regard to race or gender. In fact, the institution’s first graduate, Maria Poe, was female.

Baldwin, a wealthy quarry owner whose mother had been denied entry to an eastern university because she was a female, was joined by other business and civic leaders — James Wallace, Fletcher Hulet and Josiah Holbrook — as he launched Baldwin Institute, a school committed to education "regardless of race, gender, creed" or ability to pay. It became Baldwin University in 1856.

You will find a tribute to Lou Groza here in Berea as well as the Cleveland Brown's training facility and offices.  It is not unusual to bump into players in and about town as they often rent luxury apartments in the area.
