Fear Free Cat Sitters

Fear Free Happy Pet Sitting

Fear Free Certification encapsulates a paradigm shift in the approach and management of animals under our care, transcending the mere superficial aim of impressing clients. At its core, this certification embodies a profound commitment to understanding and mitigating fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) in our animal companions. Its value lies not only in fostering a superior experience for pets but also in enhancing the safety, efficacy, and gratification of our roles as Professional Pet Sitters.

Central to the ethos of Fear Free Certification is the acknowledgment that our interactions with animals significantly impact their well-being. It’s about more than administering medication to a fearful cat or appeasing an anxious one; it’s about recognizing and addressing their emotional needs comprehensively. By employing tailored approaches and strategies, we aim to alleviate their distress and create an environment conducive to their comfort and peace of mind.

This certification program is a profound philosophy that permeates every facet of animal care. It involves a nuanced understanding of animal behavior, enabling us to decipher and respond to their cues and needs effectively. It’s about creating an ambiance that not only reassures pets but also assuages the concerns of their owners, allowing them to depart with confidence in their pet’s well-being.

Fear Free Certification extends far beyond its representation on a website. It’s about embodying a profound understanding of animal behavior, recognizing that our roles as Professional Pet Sitters are pivotal in mitigating stress and fostering a harmonious environment for animals in our care.  Fear Free Certified Professional (FFCP) isn’t merely a title; it’s an embodiment of expertise, empathy, and a commitment to improving the lives of our furry companions.

Achieving the Elite FFCP status has unlocked doors beyond the realms of traditional pet sitting. It has endowed me with a comprehensive understanding of animal behavior, enabling me to adeptly address behavioral concerns as they arise. This proficiency spans from curating a conducive environment for pets during their owners’ absence to engaging in professional discourse with veterinarians, discussing observed levels of FAS during initial meetings, and contemplating potential interventions that could enhance the pet’s well-being.

Undoubtedly, the value imbued by the Fear Free program supersedes that of any other certification in my possession. While certifications like Pet First Aid, IAABC, IAAHPC, or KPA hold their significance, the Fear Free Certification stands as the cornerstone of my expertise and the pivotal factor in augmenting the quality of care I provide.

In conclusion, Fear Free Certification represents a transformative philosophy—one that reverberates through every interaction, every decision, and every action taken in the realm of animal care. Its intrinsic value lies not just in creating a positive experience for pets but in revolutionizing our approach, making our roles as caretakers, pet sitters, and cat sitters more empathetic, informed, and ultimately, more impactful.

What might a Fear Free Pet sitter do?

THE FEAR FREE PET SITTER’S STAY

  • Greet your cat in the most considerate manner, including possibly tossing treats, turning sideways, or even allowing a cat to hide
  • Provide enrichment opportunities for your pet, such as food puzzles and fun games
  • Add calming scents and play calming music during their stay at your home
  •  Refer you to a veterinarian, trainer, or other professional if your pet shows concerning signs of fear, anxiety, or stress

3 WAYS YOU CAN HELP MAKE THE PET-SITTING STAY FEAR FREE

  1.  Stock your pet’s favorite treats Have plenty of delicious treats cut up into small pieces and ready before your pet sitter arrives.
  2.  Create a serene scene Consider playing calming music and using plug-in calming pheromone diffusers before your pet sitter’s arrival and throughout their stay.
  3.  Consider additional strategies Some pets who are extremely stressed during your absence will benefit from medications and/or supplements in addition to positive methods. Your pet sitter may refer you to your veterinarian and a trainer
